I chose this song because it means a lot to me. I was born 3 months early and along with being premature comes several health issues. My birth mother was not in her right mind when she gave me life and severely abused me in infancy and early toddlerhood (Thankfully it was just me and not my two younger sisters, she did it to). In October of 1998, my younger sister and I were removed from her home and placed with a young couple who had our youngest sister whom we didn’t know existed at the time. In September of 1999, that young couple became our forever family. I’ve known, I was adopted my entire life and grew up in church and a private Christian school, but it wasn’t until 2016 when I realized what God meant by “I’m not ready for you yet.” "Nearer, My God, To Thee" is a song that I have known my entire life and can relate personally. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2016 and felt the arms of the Lord surround me and my mom in that doctor’s office and ever since then, I’ve always felt Him even more, so in my life than I have before. This is about as raw as it gets. Just me and a guitar. This is my salvation song and my first ever written Christian song. It will be released 2/1/24. Life got extremely tough to the point, where I was ready to take my life. Jesus stepped in and saved me. If not for Him, I would not be here today.
