Rules for Participation, Scoring Overview, and Key Deadlines

You God’s Music™ welcomes you with open arms and prays that your music message is heard by many people. We are looking forward to the opportunity to witness your ministry and your talent, to worship God!

You God's Music™, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization, with the mission to promote upand-coming Christian artists, encourage unity and joy among Christian groups through music, and help fund other organizations, which promote the common good of our communities.

General Requirements for Participation in the Showcase:

  • 1 A Christian Church, Community or Christian Educational Organization must sponsor the Contestant.
  • 2 Contestants must be 18 years of age or older to upload any material in to You God’s Music™ Multimedia Channel. Contestants must submit legal documentation that they are 18 year or older, such as a driver’s license, state identification, or passport.
  • 3 Employees of You God’s Music™ as well as its board members, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and vendors (collectively “Employees”) and immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of Employees are not eligible to participate in the Showcase.
  • 4 Contestants must prepare a 3-minute video testimonial on how their faith in Jesus Christ, has impacted or influenced their life. This testimonial does not impact scoring but will allow the General Public to know more about each Contestant and be inspired by how the contestant’s Christian faith has impacted the Contestant and made him/her a courageous disciple of Jesus Christ. This video testimony will have to be uploaded at the beginning of the Semifinals.
  • 5 Contestants will be asked to video and upload a total of 4 songs, to the You God’s Music™ Multimedia Channel throughout the whole Showcase. At the beginning of each round, each Contestant will be prompted to upload a video with the performing song. Only live music videos will be accepted, and other types of music content, such as but not limited to audio-only recordings, video slideshow of Christian images, with music audio, lip sync to a video recording, will not be accepted.
  • 6 The live faith video testimonial and songs should be recorded in the English language.
  • 7 Once the Contestant’s material is approved, he/she will be notified by email. At the end of every round, Contestants will be notified by email whether or not they make it to the next round.
  • 8 Contestants will be encouraged to invite their friends and as many of their supporters as possible, to register and become part of the You God’s Music™ Community and vote for the Contestants.
  • 9 Contestants’ progress in this competition depends on talent and on the number of supporters that Contestants are able to obtain. In each round, the Contestant’s score will start once again from scratch, no matter what his/her score was in the previous rounds.
  • 10 A different song and corresponding video must be provided for every round of the Showcase, except for the Finals.
  • 11 For the Finals, Contestants will be prompted to upload the best of the previous three video performances, to be voted again by the General Public. The live perfo
  • 12 Contestants can perform and upload Christian cover songs or their own original Christian music. Each Contestant will be able to select songs from 25 million Christian songs, from the combined catalogs of ASCAP, BMI and SESAC. All genres are covered, from Contemporary Christian and Gospel. Contestants do not need to purchase sheet music or any rights, in order to upload a submission. You God’s Music™ retains the right to provide final approval of a Contestant’s selected cover song or original music.
  • 13 With any original song performed in the Semifinals and Finals, the Contestant will be able to obtain up to 15 bonus points from the Judges’ score. If so, the Contestant will need to provide legal documentation to prove that they are the owner of such song or that he/she has the permission by the owner, to perform such song in a competition setting.
  • 14 Contestants will not be able to interact with the judges while the Showcase takes place.

Overview of Voting Process and Prizes

For each vote, supporters will be asked to donate one dollar ($1.00), which will be used to support the Contestant, his/her sponsoring Christian religious organization, organizations which promote the common good of the community (whose projects will be approved by the You God’s Music™ Board in order to be funded) and more projects like this Showcase, sponsored by You God’s Music™.

Therefore, for every vote received, one dollar ($1.00) will be donated. Out of every dollar, 20 cents will be awarded to the Contestant that receives the vote and 20 cents will go his/her Christian religious sponsoring organization. Also, 20 cents will be donated to other non-profit organizations whose project for the good of the community will be presented and approved by the You God’s Music™ Board. The other 40 cents will go to pay and promote similar activities by You God’s Music™. All proceeds will be posted at the end of the Showcase.

At the end of every round, Contestants will be awarded with the prize money corresponding to the votes they obtained in that round. For example, if the Contestant obtained 5,000 votes at the first round, he/she will be awarded $1,000 at the end of the first round. The sponsoring Christian organization will also be awarded $1,000.

For the final round and only from the final round, the winner of the Showcase, instead of receiving 20 cent of the dollar amount that corresponds to the votes by the General Public received by him/her at the Finals, the Contestant will receive 80 cents of every dollar, while his/her sponsoring Christian religious organization will receive the other 20 cents. At the end of the live Showcase event, the winner will be announced and will receive his/her Cash Prize and a Recording Artist Package!

Deadlines and Process for Each Round of Showcase

1st Round

Submission cut-off date: Saturday May 16, 2020 at 11:59 pm, Central Time. Once the Contestant’s first song is pre-approved to participate in the Showcase, it will go live. Voting will take place from Sunday May 17, 2020 at 12:00 am Central Time – Saturday May 30, 2020 at 11:59 pm Central Time. In the First Round, the Contestant’s score will depend solely on popular vote.

Only the top 25 Contestants will move unto the Semifinals.

SEMIFINALS

Submission dates: Sunday May 31, 2020 at 12:00 am Central Time – Saturday June 6, 2020 at 11:59 pm Central Time. Songs go live and voting takes place: Saturday June 13, 2020 at 12:00 am Central Time – Saturday June 27, 2020 at 11:59 pm Central Time.

The General Public will have the opportunity to cast their votes and support Contestants. However, in the Semifinals, 50% of the final score will be calculated from the Judges’ votes, and 50% of the score will be calculated from the number of votes that Contestants receive from the General Public. Only 5 Contestants will move on to the Finals.

If a Contestant elects to upload an original song, the Contestant will receive up to 15 bonus points from the Judges’ score. In the Semifinals and Finals, if a Contestant gets a zero score from the judges, that Contestant will not be able to move to the next round or win, no matter how many votes, they receive from the General Public.

Only the top 5 Contestants will move unto the Finals.

FINALS

For Finals - Submission dates of a song video recording selected from one of the previous rounds or a completely new song: Sunday June 28, 2020 at 12:00 am Central Time – July 3, 2020 at 11:59 pm Central Time.

Songs go live and General Public voting takes place: Saturday July 4, 2020 at 12:00 am Central Time – Saturday July 18, 2020 at 11:59 pm Central Time.

The live performance will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2020, 7pm at the San Antonio's Historic Concert Venue, the Aztec Theater. The 5 Contestants who make it to the Showcase Finals, are asked to sing a new song, different from the previous three songs, submitted in this contest.

5 Contestants participate in the Finals.

The Finals will have two parts, the recorded testimony and a live performance. The winner of the entire Showcase will be chosen by popular vote on the recorded video performance (40%) and by the Judges’ vote (60%), who will be scoring the live performance.

*If any of the five finalists reside outside the State of Texas, and within the United States, You God’s Music will commit to pay the airfare and lodging for up to one contestant (in case that such finalist is a group) and one night stay, to travel to San Antonio, Texas, for the Showcase scheduled on Saturday July 25, 2020.

SHOWCASE FINALS WINNER REWARDS

a. WorshipNow Publishing Sponsor will present the following:
·  Facilitate the song approval process for liturgical use in the Church.

·  Transcription and engraving of sheet music for piano, guitar and vocals.
·  Publishing contract for the sheet music and recording, produced by NOVUM RECORDS.
·  Promotion of Song to WorshipNOW customers and followers.
b. Novum Records Sponsor will award a $ 3,000 package to the Showcase Winner:
·  An authentic and high-quality original single, mixed and mastered.
·  A video package with a song story interview and acoustic performance.
c. One professional photo session with a digital media package.
d. A consultation with an Attorney at the Langley & Banack, for Copyright Registration Application for a song and to review a live performance contract.
e. Hair and Beauty makeover by an amazing beauty professional.
f.  $500 Southwest Airlines gift travel card.
g. The Showcase winner will be awarded 80% of their total Finals' cash votes and 20% will be gifted to the winner's church or Religious organization.

GUIDE TO USING MUSIC MATERIAL

  • You may select from 25 million Christian songs, from the combined catalogs of ASCAP, BMI and SESAC. All genres are covered. You do not need to purchase sheet music or any rights, in order to upload your submission. You God’s Music™ retains the rights of final approval of your selected cover song or of your own original music.

  • If you prefer to sing an original song, you must find the copyright owner. You must contact the copyright owner and receive permission to perform the song and be able to record it and sell copies. Permission must be granted and in writing. If there are any requisites including fees, You God’s Music™, Inc. must be notified. Once you acquire permission, submit the documents through the following link (https://yougodsmusic.org/showcase-copyright-form) and await approval from You God’s Music™, by email.

  • To perform an original song, you can apply for federal copyright protection at the United States Copyright Office. Follow all steps for registration and you are responsible for any fees. Once you acquire the copyright certificate, submit the copy to You God’s Music™, at the following link and wait for approval, from You God’s Music™.

    How long does the registration process take and when will I receive my certificate?

    The amount of time needed to examine a claim and issue a certificate, varies, depending on a number of factors, but not limited to the complexity of your claim, the Office’s available resources, the total number of claims which are currently pending with the Copyright Office. Processing times may also vary depending on whether you submitted your claim through the electronic registration system or sent it to the Office by mail, whether there are problems with your claim.

  • You may choose a song that is in the Public Domain. If a song's music & lyrics were published before January 1, 1923, then the song is considered in the Public Domain in the US. Please visit pdinfo.com to learn more about Public Domain works are acceptable and to research which songs meet the requirements. It's important to know that if a work is in the Public Domain, only that exact version is not protected under US copyright law. Other people may have created arrangements of that work that are under copyright. If you choose a song in the Public Domain, you must submit proof that the exact song you have chosen, and the arrangement, is in the Public Domain. You can submit to (https://yougodsmusic.org/showcase-copyright-form) and await approval from You God’s Music™.
